Masters Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club has come and gone, and what a day of golf it was.
Rory McIlroy became the first back-to-back Masters champion since Tiger Woods over two decades ago after some clutch play in the back nine in the final round Sunday, April 12. It was also the sixth major championship of McIlroy's career.
McIlroy was in the driver's seat after the first two days, but an up-and-down third round had him entering Sunday's final round of golf in a tie for first place on the leaderboard with Cameron Young at 11-under par on the tournament. A double bogey (to Jack Nicklaus' dislike) on hole No. 4 and a bogey on hole No. 6 have continued dropped him out of first place for a brief moment, while other golfers like Justin Rose and Scottie Scheffler surged.
But McIlroy learned last year how to stare down pressure on the final day of the Masters. The 36-year-old Northern Irishman regathered himself to regain the lead, holding on in the final hole for a one-stroke victory.
