A section of residents in Perungudi has planned to boycott the upcoming Assembly election due to the failure of the two main political parties, the DMK and the AIADMK, to resolve the land issue in their locality for more than five decades.
The residents have put up display boards about the proposed boycott of the Assembly election. Perungudi comes under the Sholinganallur Assembly constituency.
Created in 1984, Kamarajar Nagar in Perungudi is one of the oldest residential layouts, with more than 200 plots. Now, it has developed into a prominent residential locality situated along the Information Technology corridor.
The residents say they have not been issued computerised pattas despite the availability of manual pattas. They are aggrieved that even after making several appeals to the MLAs of both the political parties over the years, no steps have been taken to resolve the issue.
Officials have refused to grant them pattas claiming that the plots come under the Land Ceiling Act.
