A17-year-old boy has been tracked down and detained by Carabinieri police on suspicion of beating to death a 20-year-old Egyptian man, Hamza Salama, with a club or a bar in a street in the Lombardy town of Crema, on Sunday, investigative sources said.

The victim, who died of his injuries in hospital after the brutal attack, and the suspect knew each other, hung out in the same group and had had a fist fight in a park in the area recently, the investigative sources said.

It is the latest in a series of shocking recent attacks carried out by minors in Italy, including the case of a teacher stabbed and badly wounded by a 13-year-old pupil near Bergamo last month.
