The Thiruvadanai Assembly Constituency, often referred to as the “Rice Bowl of Ramanathapuram” second only to Thanjavur, faces critical infrastructure and resource challenges.

Local farmers and residents have highlighted a persistent need for more Direct Procurement Centres (DPCs) to streamline the sale of their produce.

Additionally, there is an urgent demand for a more consistent and comprehensive Vaigai river water supply to ensure the region’s agricultural productivity remains sustainable.

K. Balasubramanian, a farmer and resident of the constituency, said that though there were three DPCs – in Uppur, Ramanathapuram and R.S. Mangalam – the Thiruvadanai farmers would have to travel at least 30 km to 40 km to access any of the DPCs.

“The transport cost itself would eat most of their profit,” he added.
