While the voter mapping under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) remains incomplete across Karnataka, ‘progeny’ mapping has crossed 100% in at least 19 districts, with Kodagu and Udupi reporting over 120%, according to official data as of April 1.

Progeny refers to younger voters added and linked to existing electors, with more voters being mapped than initially estimated in these districts. Overall, 70.84% of eligible electors with cut off age (18 years or older) have been covered so far, while Bengaluru Urban stands at 62.67% in the same category. Meanwhile, across the State, 82.75% of electors are mapped, including progeny.

A senior official, on the condition of anonymity, said that while progeny mapping has crossed 100% in several districts, the ‘total mapped electors’ figure, even after including progeny, remains below the 2025 totals and exceeding 100% in progeny reflects that more younger voters have been linked to existing electors than initially expected, which can happen due to late verification, or delayed updates.

However, an official involved in overseeing the exercise said that the total number of electors is based on the 2025 voter list, and hence no new voters should have been added during the voter roll mapping. In several districts like Bagalkot, Gadag, Tumakuru, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada and other 15 districts have exceeded a 100%, further pointing that the figures may suggest anomalies, duplicate entries, or misreporting. It could also be system errors, he said.
