Deputy Premier and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini on Friday paid tribute to the legacy of Umberto Bossi after the founder of his League party, who died aged 84 on Thursday.

"We are all here thanks to his idea," Salvini told Radio Libertà.

"His legacy is great.

"It is a legacy of morals, values, spirituality, and struggle: never give up, never surrender; if you fall, you get back up".

Salvini said a rally the League is holding on April 18 in Milan's Piazza Duomo with the Patriots for Europe group it belongs to at the EU level will be dedicated to Bossi's memory.
