The national price ombudsman, Mr Prezzi, has given Italy's tax police a list of the petrol companies that have failed to bring their prices in line with the government's 25-cent-a-litre cut in excise duty, the Business and Made in Italy Industry said Thursday.

Mister Prezzi, the ministry's price surveillance guarantor, "on the recommendation of the Ministers of Business, Adolfo Urso, and Economy, Giancarlo Giorgetti, has forwarded to the Guardia di Finanza (tax police) the list of distributors that have not yet adjusted their fuel prices to the excise duty cuts imposed by the Government, along with an indication of the potential and most significant anomalies detected," the ministry said.

"Inspections are already underway across the country and will continue on the road and highway networks and along the entire supply chain."
