hile little in fashion truly surprises us anymore, the return of certain trends still manages to catch our attention... and even raise questions. For instance, what is behind the curious resurgence, described in a recent article in the reputable British daily the Guardian, of wearing a cap backwards, with the visor above the nape, among younger generations?

This particular twist has a long history. According to some sources, baseball catchers were the first to "unscrew" their caps as far back as the 19th century, so that the visor would not hit their protective mask.

Other sources claim it was American military snipers who popularized the look a few decades later, so the visor would not interfere with their scope when firing. In both cases, turning the cap around was born out of necessity and served a practical purpose.
