Driver reportedly crashed vehicle into building in Detroit suburb and shots were fired

Multiple law enforcement agencies were responding on Thursday afternoon to reports in Michigan of a shooter at a synagogue in a Detroit suburb after a driver reportedly crashed a vehicle into the building and shots were fired.

A large police response followed the incident at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield township, about 25 miles north-west of downtown Detroit.

Local media reports said the car was on fire after the crash, and schools in the vicinity were in lockdown. It was not immediately known if there were any casualties. Black smoke could be seen billowing from the large complex, local TV aerial footage showed.

Local media reports also said the synagogue complex contains a school.
