The Delhi budget for 2026-27 will focus on green policies, striking a balance between development and environmental protection, according to sources.

The budget is likely to be presented next week by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who also holds the Finance portfolio.

The primary objective of a ‘green budget’ is to ensure that a significant portion of government spending and development programmes are directed towards environmental priorities.

“These include pollution control, clean energy, water conservation, biodiversity protection, and broader sustainable development initiatives. Such a budgeting framework will make it easier to track how much the government is investing in environmentally focused programmes and the impact those investments generate,” a source said.

Sources said the concept of a green budget goes beyond environmental protection and can also open new avenues for economic growth.
