Had you been among the 10,000 spectators at the unfortunately named Wankdorf stadium watching the final of the Swiss Premier League in 1933, you would have been entertained by the gymnastic antics of Lausanne keeper Roger Feutz. Known as “the acrobatic goalkeeper”, Feutz brought a unique flamboyance to his work; one photograph shows him wearing his trademark flat cap while performing what looks like a dangerous somersault over the crossbar. Feutz also had very good taste in watches, sporting a personalised Jaeger‑LeCoultre Reverso. In one of the earliest sporting endorsement deals in the watch industry, the entire team would go on to appear in advertising for the brand.

Feutz’s Jaeger‑LeCoultre Reverso was one of the more sought-after artefacts at last autumn’s FAB Paris art fair. “There was so much interest in it that the maison came to see it,” says exhibitor Geoffray Riondet. The excitement was emblematic of broader interest in the model; at this year’s Golden Globes, actors Adam Brody and Charlie Hunnam wore the same Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds in 18ct pink gold, while Jake Lacy opted for the understated Reverso Tribute Duoface Small Seconds, which has a second dial for another timezone in stainless steel.
