The Puducherry government has launched its scheme to provide ₹10,000 per month for graduates undergoing internship in IT and ITES companies based in the Union Territory.
The government has signed Memoranda of Understanding with 23 companies registered in Puducherry for enrolling students for a one-year internship programme. In the first phase, around 145 graduate students with computer science background were selected for the internship.
An event was held on Friday where the government signed agreements with the companies for a tie-up and to distribute offer letters to candidates selected for the internship scheme. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, Minister for Public Works and IT K. Lakshminarayanan were present, an official release said.
The government had opened a portal for interested Puducherry-based firms to join the programme. The same portal had also invited applications from students residing in Puducherry and who have completed BCA, MCA, B.Tech and M.Tech for joining the programme. Of the 302 students who had applied in the portal, 145 candidates were selected, said an official.
“Each selected student will receive a monthly stipend of ₹10,000 for a period of one year, enabling them to gain valuable industry exposure. The initiative aims to strengthen collaboration between the government and the IT industry while creating meaningful opportunities for young graduates to develop professional skills aligned with industry requirements,” the release said.
