A new bus terminus was declared open in Ariyalur on Saturday.

Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru and Minister for Transport and Electricity S.S. Sivasankar declared open the bus stand. Collector P. Rathinasamy and MLAs K. Chinnappa and Ka. So. Ka. Kannan were present.

Built at a cost of ₹11.58 crore, the bus stand will cater to the increase in the movement of buses and passengers. It replaces the old bus stand built about 43 years ago. Mr. Sivasankar said the new bus stand would meet a felt need of the people. Despite various hurdles, the bus stand work had been completed at the personal intervention of Mr. Nehru at various stages.

Listing various development works sanctioned in Ariyalur Municipal limits, Mr. Sivasankar said a new market complex was under construction in the town.

Mr. Nehru said new bus stands were sanctioned for all major towns under the DMK government. Other basic amenities such as roads and storm-water drains were provided in all towns and cities, as they have high density of population. Drinking water distribution pipe lines, which were 50 years old, were being replaced, he said.
