Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday inaugurated the new Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Bus Stand in Mayiladuthurai through video conference. The facility, constructed at a cost of ₹29.01 crore by the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, was opened on Friday. Backward Classes Welfare Minister Siva V. Meyyanathan was present.
Mr. Meyyanathan lit the traditional lamp and flagged off buses to mark the commencement of operations at the new bus stand.
Poombuhar MLA Nivedha M. Murugan and Mayiladuthurai MLA S. Rajakumar were present. District Collector H.S. Srikanth presided over the function.
The new bus stand includes 28 bus bays, a 1,000-metre internal road with a width of 15 metres, 49 shops, 10 passenger waiting halls, a cloak room, two eateries, two breastfeeding rooms for mothers, a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation office and reservation centre, time-keeper rooms, a police room, an ATM facility, and a control room.
The facility includes modern free toilets, separate toilets for persons with disabilities, a compound wall, covered bus bays, purified drinking water facilities, seating arrangements for passengers, and a two-wheeler parking area.
