The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday, February 28, 2026, flagged off the ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’, a rally aimed at seeking the “blessings” of the people across 50 Assembly constituencies in the central and eastern parts of the State.

Assam, where Assembly elections are likely in April, has 126 seats. The eastern half of the State has been the most fertile region for the BJP since the 2016 elections.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma initiated the yatra from the Gupteshwar Temple at Dhekiajuli in north-central Assam’s Sonitpur district. The State’s Health Minister, Ashok Singhal, represents the Dhekiajuli constituency.

“Our objective is to seek the blessings of the people for the upcoming elections, carry the message of development, good governance, and welfare schemes to their doorsteps,” the Chief Minister said, urging party workers to intensify grassroots-level engagement during the campaign.

Party leaders said the BJP aims to reach out to at least one lakh people every day across several districts till March 9, the concluding day of the yatra. The first stop of the yatra was Balipara, about 45 km east of Dhekiajuli.
