A DMK youth wing branch secretaryin Anchetty was arrested under POCSO Act for aggravated sexual assault causing death of a 2.5 year old girl child. The 40 year old accused Kalaignar alias M.Periyanayagam of Jesurajapuram in Anchetty was found to have sexually assaulted the 2.5 year old daughter of a woman with whom he had an affair. The woman, a resident of a panchayat in Anchetty, was estranged from her husband and was in a relationship with the accused.
The accused Periyanayagam had allegedly sexually assaulted the girl, when her mother was not around. The aggravated sexual assault had led to fatal injuries. According to the police, on December 11, the victim’s mother had taken her baby to a private hospital in Anchetty with the complaint of fits in her child. The hospital on checking declared the child brought dead.
A complaint of suspicious death was lodged by the child’s father with Anchetty police. Following this, an autopsy was ordered. According to the police, the autopsy results returned internal injuries suffered by the child. Following inquiry and interrogation, it was found Periyanayagam had sexually assaulted the child resulting in aggravated injuries causing death.
The accused was arrested under Sections 5 (m) 5 (1) r/w Section 6 of POCSO Act for Aggravated penetrative sexual assault and Section 66 of BNS (sexual assault inflicting fatal injuries) and remanded in judicial custody by the Mahila Court.
