There’s no such thing as being too safe, especially when you’re traveling, live alone or find yourself staying in a vacation rental that doesn’t quite look as secure in person as it did in the online photos. If you’re worried about unwanted visitors being able to enter your space, there’s a handy $15 gadget can keep them out — a low price to pay for peace of mind, in our opinion.
The AceMining portable door lock can come in handy in tons of situations: Maybe you’re traveling solo and want to keep your hotel room secure, or you have a teen staying in a college dorm for the first time. You can even use it on your front door at home to pet- and childproof it. The door lock requires no tools to install and comes with a hole on either end to fit most door bolt sizes.
All you have to do is open the door and place the right-sized hole over the strike plate, then close it so the metal plate is stuck. Then you use the red lock to secure the whole thing in place, and voila! Once it’s in place, the lock can keep intruders from opening the door from the outside, even if the door’s own locks are unlocked. (If these instructions are at all confusing, there’s a very straightforward video tutorial on the product page.)
