The Coimbatore Corporation has proposed the development of a road safety awareness park at Semmozhi Poonga at an estimated cost of ₹4 crore. The project, to be funded through government allocations and corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions, is aimed at educating students, vehicle users and the public on traffic rules, road discipline and safe travel through interactive, model-based and AI-supported experiential learning.
The park will occupy approximately 2,000 sq ft within the ticketing complex at Semmozhi Poonga.
Officials said the proposal builds on the steady increase in footfall at Semmozhi Poonga since its inauguration, attracting visitors from Coimbatore, neighbouring districts and adjacent States. Weekend footfall is particularly high, making it a key recreational and educational destination.
Annual flower show
In addition to the road safety park, the Corporation plans to hold an annual flower show at Semmozhi Poonga to boost public engagement. The timing of the event will be carefully aligned with visitor patterns, seasonal blooms and climate conditions. Officials said the flower show will provide a platform for local horticulture enthusiasts and farmers, while supporting tourism and economic activity in the city.
