Coimbatore Corporation has appointed a senior horticulture officer to ensure the proper maintenance and upkeep of the 45-acre Semmozhi Poonga at Gandhipuram.

Developed at an estimated cost of ₹208.5 crore, the park features 23 themed gardens and over 2,000 species of plants, including rare ones collected for preservation.

To prevent potential damage to plants and overgrowth due to lack of supervision, Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran recommended the appointment of an experienced officer to manage the park’s operations.

Accordingly, Vidhya, Assistant Director of the Horticulture Department from Virudhachalam, has been assigned to Coimbatore Corporation and entrusted with overseeing the maintenance of Semmozhi Poonga.
