Is X down? Thousands of users report issues with social media app

X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, appears to be experiencing an outage on Monday, Feb. 16.

As of 8:30 a.m. ET on Monday, more than 40,000 users reported issues with X, according to Downdetector, which tracks live service outages. More than 50% of users reported issues with the mobile app.

The outage is reported throughout the United States, with large numbers coming in from New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, Minneapolis and the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Downdetector reported.

X did not immediately respond for comment when contacted by USA TODAY.

The apparent outage on Monday, Feb. 16 is the third of its kind this year. On Jan. 13, X was down for more than 24,000 users and on Jan. 16, more than 74,000 users reported another round of issues with the social media platform.
