WASHINGTON – Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson is defending her appearance at this year’s Grammys, and sharing what it was like to lose an award to the Dalai Lama. She also has an explanation for what is going on with the highly-anticipated ruling on President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

“The court is going through its process of deliberation,” Jackson said on “CBS Mornings” on Feb. 10 when asked about one of the court’s most anticipated decisions. “The American people expect for us to be thorough and clear in our determinations and sometimes that takes time.”

During the court’s November oral arguments about Trump’s sweeping tariffs, many of the justices sounded skeptical that the president can tap emergency powers to sidestep the more complex and limited tariffs process other presidents have relied on.

But the justifces haven't issued their decision, leading to speculation they're in no rush to invalidate the centerpiece of Trump’s economic agenda and a major foreign policy tool.

It’s not unusual, however, for the court to take months to issue a major decision. And the court has decided only one of the other eight cases debated in November, all of which are less consequential than the tariffs dispute.
