"Today" show anchor Savannah Guthrie is living every adult child's worst nightmare.

Guthrie's mother, Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing from her home outside Tucson on Feb. 1. Police have since confirmed they believe she was kidnapped or abducted, as she has limited mobility and "couldn't walk 50 yards by herself." On Feb. 4, Savannah Guthrie posted a video addressing media reports of ransom notes and begging for her mother to be returned, while sitting between her sister Annie Guthrie and brother Camron Guthrie.

Many aspects of the story read like a Hollywood script and are unfathomable to the average American. But the "Today" anchor's pain is also palpable and relatable, especially for anyone who's experienced the struggles of caring for an aging parent from afar.

"Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant," Guthrie said in a Feb. 2 Instagram post. "Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment."
