Authorities said on Wednesday they do not have a suspect in the alleged abduction of NBC news anchor Savannah Guthrie's mother, as they sought to tamp down on misinformation circulating online about the missing 84-year-old.
It has been four days since Nancy Guthrie disappeared in the middle of night near Tuscon, Arizona. Authorities believe she was "taken from her home against her will".
Since then, rumors have spread on social media and other sites about possible suspects, motives, and evidence found at the house, which law enforcement now considers a crime scene.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has described an all-hands-on-deck effort to find Nancy Guthrie that has included dogs, drones, helicopters, and the FBI.
When asked on Tuesday whether his department was still looking for someone who was alive, Nanos replied: "We hope we are."
