Changes are still needed on the government's proposed preventive arrest for potentially dangerous demonstrators and a shield for police self-defence actions, President Sergio Mattarella reportedly told Cabinet Secretary Alfredo Mantovano in a discussion on Constitutional issues raised by the security package set to be launched Thursday, parliamentary sources said Wednesday.
Mattarella reportedly told Mantovano, who met today at the Quirinale, that the green light could be given to the measures on police detention and the criminal shield, but only with some amendments still to be made.
The Quirinale is keeping quiet, but parliamentary sources have learned that Mantovano is now reporting to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the Colle's observations, which are essentially the same as those made in recent days.
In particular, regarding the shield, the need remains firm that separate case law for each category should not be created.
Regarding preventive detention, it is noted that mere suspicious behavior cannot be enough to warrant a detention, the sources said.
