District Collector R. Sukumar handed over loans to the tune of ₹24 lakh to eight dairy farmers for buying cows during the weekly grievances redress meeting held at the Collectorate on Monday.

Under the minor dairy farm development scheme of Aavin’s Tirunelveli District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, a loan of ₹3 lakh was given to eight beneficiaries. The loan carries 4% interest subsidy.

“Of the ₹3 lakh loan being given through the banks, each dairy farmer is given ₹2.40 lakh for buying four cows and ₹60,000 for maintaining the milch animals. Hence, interested dairy farmers may contact the nearest milk producers’ union branch or the banks,” Dr. Sukumar said.

The Collector also gave away battery-operated wheelchair to a physically challenged beneficiary in the presence of District Revenue Officer M. Durai, Deputy Collector (Training) Lidiya and General Manager, Aavin, K. R. Vasu.
