R&B singer Kehlani had to hold herself back from using a four-letter word while making a political statement at Sunday’s Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

The “After Hours” artist was one of several attendees who denounced Immigrations and Customs Enforcement by wearing pins that read “ICE Out,” as outrage over two high-profile deaths at the hands of agents has roiled the nation.

Kehlani, who picked up two trophies before the main awards ceremony, told The Hollywood Reporter she considered rocking a more feisty version of the message, revealing, “I really wanted to say ‘fuck ICE,’ but I think they needed some couth on the carpet.”

“We’re too powerful a group to all be in the room at the same time and not make some kind of statement in our country,” she added, calling the fashion statement a no-brainer.

Though Kehlani toned down her activist accessory, she didn’t hold back while accepting one of her awards.
