R&B singer Kehlani had to hold herself back from using a four-letter word while making a political statement at Sunday’s Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. The “After Hours” artist was one of several attendees who denounced Immigrations and Customs Enforcement by wearing pins that read “ICE Out,” as outrage over two high-profile deaths at the hands of agents has roiled the nation.Kehlani, who picked up two trophies before the main awards ceremony, told The Hollywood Reporter she considered rocking a more feisty version of the message, revealing, “I really wanted to say ‘fuck ICE,’ but I think they needed some couth on the carpet.”“We’re too powerful a group to all be in the room at the same time and not make some kind of statement in our country,” she added, calling the fashion statement a no-brainer.R&B artist Kehlani told The Hollywood Reporter wearing the "ICE Out" pin to Sunday's Grammys was a no-brainer for her.Neilson Barnard via Getty ImagesThough Kehlani toned down her activist accessory, she didn’t hold back while accepting one of her awards.“Together, we’re stronger in numbers to speak out against all the injustice going on in the world right now,” she said to the audience. “So instead of letting it be just a couple of people here and there, I hope everybody is inspired to come together as a community of artists and speak out against what’s going on. I’m going to leave it at that and say, fuck ICE.”Backlash against ICE and President Donald Trump’s aggressive deportation operations has been fierce following the death of Minneapolis residents Renée Good and Alex Pretti this month. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and other Trump officials have accused Good of trying to ram agents with her car in an act of “domestic terrorism,” though footage and eyewitness accounts contradict the government’s allegations. And while boycotts and protests were taking place across the country on Friday, the president called Pretti an “insurrectionist” and an “agitator” on Truth Social.
