Both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division is investigating the death of Alex Pretti, whose Jan. 24 killing by a Border Patrol agent in Minneapolis sparked renewed backlash against federal authorities and President Donald Trump suggesting he would de-escalate tensions.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said Friday the DOJ investigation is ongoing and could include talking to witnesses, looking at documentary evidence and sending subpoenas.
The FBI is also leading an investigation, according to a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson, who told Fobes the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations agency is assisting in the case that is separate from a Customs and Border Protection investigation.
