The Mega Millions jackpot continues to rise ahead of the Tuesday, Jan. 27 drawing, reaching $285 million with a cash value of $128.6 million.
If someone were to get lucky tonight and win the jackpot, they’ll have two options: take home a one-time, lump-sum cash payment or receive an immediate payment followed by annual checks, each 5% larger than the previous year.
Last week, the first jackpot winner of the year took home the Powerball, which was an estimated $209 million. According to the North Carolina Education Lottery, the winning ticket was sold in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and the winner chose to take home the lump sum payment of $95.3 million, which, after taxes, came to be $68.6 million.
