Premier Giorgia Meloni condemned the "complicity" of Italy's Fascist regime in the Shoah on Holocaust Remembrance Day on Tuesday and bemoaned the recent upswing in anti-Semitism.
"We remember the names and surnames of the victims and renew the memory of what happened, including through the precious testimony of survivors and their descendants," Meloni said.
"Today we celebrate the Righteous of every nation, who did not hesitate to put their lives at risk to oppose the Nazi design and save innocent lives.
"On this day again we condemn the complicity of the Fascist regime in the persecution, round-ups, and deportations.
"A dark page of Italian history, sealed by the ignominy of the racial laws of 1938.
