Savannah Guthrie is back.
The "Today" show cohost returned to Studio 1A Monday, Jan. 26, after taking a lengthy hiatus to undergo vocal cord surgery. The anchor announced in mid-December that she would need surgery to address non-cancerous growths found on her vocal cords.
"Some of you have noticed that my voice has been very scratchy and started to crack a little bit," Guthrie said on Dec. 19. "Well, I have found out what it is. I have vocal nodules, and now I also have a polyp. It's not a big, big deal, but I am going to have to have a surgery real early in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks, so it's my last day for a little while."
Guthrie, 54, appeared on the broadcast Friday, Jan. 23, to give an update, before her official return Monday, Jan. 26.
"What I thought was just normal aging and wear and tear got much more noticeable, and this past year, much worse," she said. "Sometimes, it was hard to get through a sentence."
