The BJP’s strategy for the upcoming Assembly election in West Bengal has identified three main issues for the party and the larger Sangh Parivar to take on board — grassroot mobilisation, unity within the BJP’s State unit, and raising issues with regard to the Trinamool Congress government.

A key part of addressing these concerns, especially regarding grassroots mobilisation, is close coordination with the local RSS in the State, sources said. Pradeep Joshi, the former prant in charge of West Bengal and Odisha for the RSS, is being asked to oversee the coordination.

“There are many learnings from what happened in the 2021 polls, both during and after. During the polls themselves, there was a lot of heartburn between the BJP and the RSS, and too many outsiders were being accommodated. Once the polls were over, there was large-scale political violence in the state, and our voters and workers suffered, and the party could not do much in terms of offering security. Post all this, it was felt that standing by our grassroots workers is a primary responsibility, and that coordination is important,” said a senior source in the RSS.

Mr. Joshi had been in charge of West Bengal and Odisha for the RSS for some time before being appointed the joint head of the RSS’s national media outreach and publicity department.
