Added to Lake Superior State University’s list of newly banished words, 6-7 (six seven) emerged from rapper Skrilla’s 2024 song “Doot Doot.” In the song, the artist raps, "The way that switch, I know he dyin'. 6-7." It’s not clear what the exact meaning of 6-7 is. Some people suggest it may reference 67th Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the rapper’s hometown, according to Know Your Meme.
In 2025, the phrase was adopted by teenagers and children alike to either mean “so-so” or “maybe this, maybe that.” The phrase can also be used in isolation as a joke and to mystify adults. The phrase became so popular that Dictionary.com named it the 2025 Word of the Year.
