A court in Medchal-Malkajgiri district has sentenced a man to death for the murder of a woman whose body was found in the bushes near the Bharatnagar flyover in Sanathnagar in 2011. The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the convict.

The accused, Karan Singh, 35, alias Kamma Singh, was convicted under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code by the III Additional District and Sessions Judge cum Principal Family Court at Kukatpally. The judgment was delivered after the conclusion of the trial in the case registered by Sanathnagar police.

Around 9 p.m. on July 18, 2011, Sanathnagar police received information from Kappari Ramu about the body in an open area with bushes at a godown beside the Bharathnagar flyover. Police found the naked body of the unidentified woman bearing multiple stab wounds. A case of murder was registered and investigation was taken up.

During the course of investigation, police collected material evidence and, on August 11, 2011, arrested Karan Singh, a blacksmith by profession and a resident of Gurudwara Street in Bidar, Karnataka. He was remanded to judicial custody. The charge sheet was later filed before the court by the investigating officer.

During the trial, the court, after evaluating the evidence on record, held the accused guilty and awarded the death sentence.
