Ahead of Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan’s visit to Rameswaram on December 30 for attending the valedictory ceremony of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam, Ramanathapuram Superintendent of Police G. Chandeesh, said the security arrangements were on board to receive the Vice-President and conduct the event in a peaceful manner.
Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon, Mr. Chandeesh and other officials inspected the venue here on Sunday.
Speaking to press persons here, Mr. Chandeesh said they expected around 5,000 people to participate in the event. “To control the crowd and for other security arrangements, 700 police personnel are to be deployed,” he added.
Further, when the Vice-President travelled by road from Mandapam helipad to Rameswaram via Madurai-Rameswaram National Highway, traffic would be temporarily halted. Normal traffic flow would resume once the dignitary reaches the venue.. Similar restrictions would apply during his departure. Hence, the public must plan their journeys accordingly to avoid delays caused by the temporary traffic halts.
Also, the district administration had imposed a strict ban on flying drones in Pamban, Mandapam, Thangachimadam, and Rameswaram on December 29 and 30. “Cases would be registered and drones will be confiscated from anyone found violating the ban,” Mr. Chandeesh warned.
