Unavu Thiruvizha (food festival) organised by the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women is extended until December 28, in view of the upcoming holidays and the response from the crowd.

The second edition is being held at Besant Nagar beach, Chennai, from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. It was scheduled to conclude on December 24.

The Unavu Thiruvizha features food from across the State made by women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The women SHGs have been trained to ensure the quality and hygienic preparation of the food apart from sales knowledge to set up stalls at the festival.

According to a press release, the food festival features items from each district of Tamil Nadu such as karuvadu soup, Coimbatore kongu mutton biryani, Cuddalore fish curry, Dindigul chicken biryani, Dharmapuri ragi adhirasam among others. The event features 235 food varieties such as parotta, biriyani and boli.

The food festival also has various performances in the evenings.
