A 41-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly defrauding about ₹42 lakh after promising a person of securing a seat in a veterinary college in K.K. Nagar. Police said Anthony Amirtharaj, 51, of Ashok Nagar, runs a bakery shop. In 2023, he came into contact with Chinnathurai, Lakshmi Priya, Arun, and Manjunatha, who assured him that they could secure a seat for his son in a veterinary college. Believing their promise, he paid them approximately ₹42 lakh in three instalments.However, the accused failed to obtain the college seat as promised. When Anthony Amirtharaj demanded the return of his money, they refunded only ₹4,44,000.Based on a complaint, the K.K. Nagar police registered a case and arrested Lakshmi Priya, 45, of Arcot, Ranipet district. An amount of ₹1 lakh was recovered from her.
