A 46-year-old man was arrested for allegedly luring a 38-year-old woman with the promise of an acting opportunity, sexually exploiting her and later threatening her with a video to extort ₹2 lakh and around 91 grams of gold jewellery in Vadapalani.The accused, Sheikh Muthalif of Adambakkam, runs a private company and allegedly came in contact with the woman in 2025. The woman has acted in films and television programmes.According to the police, Muthalif invited the woman to an award function organised by him. After she attended the event, he allegedly promised to help her secure opportunities in films and television, and told her that she would also be presented with an award.Police said Muthalif subsequently took her to another location, where he allegedly sexually exploited her. He later threatened her by claiming that he had recorded a video of the incident and demanded money and jewellery. The woman allegedly handed over ₹2 lakh in cash and around 91 grams of gold jewellery to him. Based on the woman’s complaint, the police arrested Muthalif. Published - August 03, 2026 11:50 pm IST
