Rapper Nicki Minaj made quite the unfortunate gaffe during her surprise appearance at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest convention over the weekend. While seated next to Erika Kirk, Charlie Kirk’s widow, Minaj praised Vice President JD Vance and described him as an “assassin,” before she immediately seemed to regret her word choice.
Minaj was being interviewed by Erika Kirk onstage at the convention when she began to share her advice for young men. She took a dig at California Gov. Gavin Newsom by advising young men not to be “Newscum” — a nickname President Donald Trump has mockingly given him. She then gushed over the president, calling him an “amazing” role model, and “handsome” and “dashing,” before naming Vance as another positive role model. She described the vice president as an “assassin.”
“And you have amazing role models like the assassin JD Vance, our vice president, and when I say that—” Minaj said, before pausing as she appeared to regret using the word “assassin” in front of Erika Kirk whose husband was assassinated in September.
The rapper placed her hand over her mouth shortly after.
“Trust me, there’s nothing new under the sun that I have not heard, so you’re fine,” Erika Kirk responded, before adding: “This is what’s so beautiful about this moment, because if the internet wants to clip it, who cares. I love this woman, she’s an amazing woman, she has a soul and a heart for the Lord, and words are words, but I know her heart and it doesn’t even matter.” (See a clip of the exchange here.)
