The police detained more than 100 persons on Tuesday (December 16, 2025) after they staged a protest against the Tiruppur City Municipal Corporation’s move to set up a temporary dump yard for waste segregation in their locality at Chinnakalipalayam and Iduvai.

They staged the protest after six lorries carrying waste arrived at the location on Tuesday. Villagers, who have previously staged various protests against the dump yard coming up in their area, stopped the lorries and staged a road blockade. Several people from 63 Velampalayam and other villages also joined the protest.

Sources said that heated arguments ensued between the public and the police. As the public refused to disperse, the police attempted to remove them, leading to scuffles. Some farmers came to the location with their cows and attempted to tie them to the lorries. The police, however, stopped them.

Three protesters and three police personnel, who allegedly suffered injuries in the altercation, were admitted to the Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital.
