The police have put in place high-security arrangements in Kozhikode district which goes to polls on Thursday (December 11, 2025), the second phase of the local body elections in Kerala. The support of the Rapid Action Force, a specialised wing of the Central Reserve Police Force, has also been ensured.

Based on a previous vulnerability assessment report, additional personnel will be deployed under the supervision of Deputy Superintendents of Police in politically sensitive areas around Nadapuram, Thamarassery and Perambra on Thursday.

“We will employ 5,000 police personnel to ensure a peaceful polling. Review meetings were held with senior officers to assess the situation,” said District Police Chief (Kozhikode rural) K.E. Baiju. He added that strike squads would remain alert in sensitive locations, along with special teams assigned for regular patrol.

According to police sources, panchayats where the presence of suspected Maoist supporters or activists has already been confirmed by investigation teams will be under enhanced security cover. These locations were flagged during field-level vulnerability assessments conducted by senior officers.
