The high-security arrangements and surveillance measures initiated by the police ahead of the Assembly elections will be maintained for a few more weeks to pre-empt post-poll violence in Kozhikode district. Night patrol and flash inspections will continue in all the politically sensitive areas included in the vulnerability assessment map.
According to senior police officers, the newly created police sub-divisions will also function under the designated team of officers till the election results are declared. The squads will stay alert at the district and State-level borders and continue with the vehicle-checking in assigned areas.
In rural areas
Some isolated incidents of post-poll violence also contributed to the decision to continue with the heightened security. Most of the problem spots on the latest vulnerability assessment map of the police are in the rural areas of Kozhikode district, where the Station House Officers have been asked to stay alert.
“There were minor clashes among the political party workers citing suspected attempts of impersonation and bogus votes. But, all those issues were resolved peacefully by the assigned security squads,” said a senior police officer from Vadakara. He said the presence of the Central Armed Police Force also strengthened the security cover.
