On Wednesday, the Trump administration announced a proposal that would weaken some pesky vehicle mileage rules currently in place to minimize auto industry air pollution.
The new standards would reduce the miles-per-gallon industry fleetwide average for light-duty vehicles from 50.4 miles per gallon under a Biden-era rule to roughly 34.5 miles per gallon by the 2031 model year.
Duffy seemed to be excited about bringing gas guzzlers back to America’s freeways when he discussed the proposed rules on CNBC on Thursday, and went full Chuck Griswold about the possible return of one vehicle in particular:
