WASHINGTON − President Donald Trump and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said during a Cabinet meeting Dec. 2 they plan to overhaul Dulles International Airport near DC, which they said was poorly designed.
Trump complimented the terminal designed by Eero Saarinen. But he and Duffy said the rest of the airport is a mess that must be improved.
"We’re also going to rebuild Dulles airport because it’s not a good airport," Trump said. "They have a great building and a bad airport."
Trump and Duffy didn’t detail how the airport would be changed. Moving or adding runways, for example, is an incredibly complicated process that can take years and cost billions of dollars.
"We’re going to turn that around," Trump added. "We’re going to make Dulles airport serving Washington and Virginia, Maryland, etcetera into something really spectacular. We have an amazing plan for it."
