Things got a little testy in the White House on Wednesday after Donald Trump scolded one of his Cabinet members for ― of all things ― the way he pronounced Pete Buttigieg’s last name.

During an announcement about a new proposal that will weaken vehicle mileage rules for the auto industry, current Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy compared the new rule to how President Joe Biden and Buttigieg, the previous transportation secretary, handled things.

In the process, Duffy pronounced Buttigieg’s last name “Boot-uh-judge,” and was immediately chastised by Trump, who insisted it was actually pronounced “Boot-edge-edge.”

Duffy corrected himself and apologized while Trump shook his head in mock disgust, and the people around them laughed.

Although RawStory claimed Duffy’s pronunciation of Buttigieg’s name was the correct one, Trump’s pronunciation is one that Mayor Pete pushed during the 2020 presidential election.
