The centre-right governor candidate in Veneto, Alberto Stefani, hailed his victory on social media on Monday and thanked the Veneti for electing him in the right-wing stronghold governed for the last 10 years by the League's Luca Zaia.

"Thank you Veneti! I was deeply moved by the honor of representing you.

I feel a strong responsibility and also great energy.

I want to be clear: I will put the needs of the people first and will be governor of everyone, even those who didn't vote for me. And, together with the coalition forces, whom I thank, I will be back to work tomorrow. With eyes and heart only for the Veneto."
