Asolution to the issues raised by the European Commission on Italy's golden powers over the banking and other sectors could come via a decree or in the 2026 budget package, sources close to the dossier said after Brussels opened an infringement procedure Friday.

Italy is studying a legislative amendment to the Golden Power law that would also allow the EU's objections to be quickly overcome, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The government is currently considering a decree or amendments to the budget law.

Both options should also quickly address the concerns raised today.

The same sources explain that Italy has been working for months with the relevant committees to find a collaborative solution, and therefore a solution could be reached very quickly, rather than the two-month wait required in this case for a response.
