The Mayiladuthurai district police have switched over to digital communication system, which ensures seamless transmission and swift response to any emergencies.
The analog system has been replaced with the advanced digital system in Mayiladuthurai district which was carved out of the Nagapattinam district in December 2020.
A total of 200 new walkie talkie sets, 49 static sets, and 60 mobile sets have been provided to the district police by the State government under the police modernisation scheme. New wireless sets have been provided to all police stations, the district police control room, police vehicles, and patrol vehicles besides officers of different ranks and constables. All equipment have a global positioning system (GPS) which would enable the district police to know the exact position of police and patrol vehicles.
Falling under the central zone, the Mayiladuthurai district has two police sub-divisions: Mayiladuthurai and Sirkazhi with 14 police stations, two All Women Police Stations, and two Prohibition and Enforcement Wing units. In addition to police stations, the new sets have been given to units such as District Crime Branch, Social Justice and Human Rights, Traffic, and District Armed Reserve.
