Special enrolment camp to register government school students with disabilities for the issuance of national identity cards has commenced in Tiruchi.
Over 150 children with disabilities were screened at a health camp held on Friday at the Adi Dravidar Welfare Girls Higher Secondary School in Kattur. A team of doctors from various departments examined the children to assess their eligibility for disability certificates. The camp was organised jointly by the Department of Differently Abled Welfare and the School Education Department.
These disability certificates will serve as the basis for issuing the national identity card, an essential document that enables differently abled beneficiaries to access a wide range of welfare schemes and financial assistance from both the State and Central governments.
Free medical consultations and diagnostic tests, including general health check-up, eye and ear examinations, and mental health assessments, were provided to the students. Officials said the camp ensured timely medical support for many children. Applications for the Unique Disability ID (UDID) were accepted and processed for eligible students.
Similar camps will be conducted across the district to ensure that all students with disabilities benefit from the initiative, an official said.
