The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday sought response from Dindigul district administration to a public interest litigation petition seeking a direction to the authorities to initiate necessary proceedings to restore a children’s park in Dindigul as per the approved plan.
A Division Bench of Justices Anita Sumanth and C. Kumarappan was hearing the petition filed by CPI(M) Dindigul district secretary K. Prabhakaran who sought a direction to the authorities to restore the children’s park in R.M. Colony.
The petitioner said in 1992, the Tamil Nadu Housing Board developed a suburban scheme at R.M. Colony. As per the scheme, TNHB provided the houses. When the scheme was floated, the housing plots were approved by the Local Planning Authority.
In the approved plan, the land measuring about 7,972 sq.mt was earmarked for the children’s park at the time of formation of the housing plots. However, till date it has not been handed over to Dindigul Corporation for maintenance, he said.
Under these circumstances, CPI(M) Councillor S. Ganesan found the land allocated for the children’s park fenced. He wrote to the authorities seeking information about the present status of the land.
